literary teeth whitening
I joined this club on vox called 50 in 365- the whole aim is to read 50 books over the course of the year.
Right now I'm reading
White Teeth, by Zadie Smith. I read On Beauty in a less-than 24-hour period about a year and a half ago and then decided that Zadie Smith has literally the loveliest voice in storytelling. When I say this, I mean the words flow so elegantly and create such distinct pictures- it's remarkable. In October, I got to hear her real voice when she read at the New Yorker Festival- and I must admit, her actual voice did her writing voice justice.
So anyway, on to White Teeth. I like it a lot so far (not surprising) and, again, am astounded by how she describes even ugly things in beautiful ways. It's almost as if you don't realize she's describing something hideous until after the fact.
I'm not very far in- 50 or so pages- but I wanted to post to guilt myself into keeping with this 50 in 365. I think it's a fantastic idea and I'd love to read more fantastic books.
Tata for now...

Hi Ashkash,
I just started On Beauty n I agree with you totally, she does have a lovely voice..
White teeth was my first Zadie book (hers too, I think), and I've been hooked ever since. The way she weaves the story about a friendship forged in WWII which lasts over 3 generations is really mesmerising.
Presumptious advice: unwrap the story slowly...and enjoy.
And then try ..Autograph Man!
Cheers
